Our Story

The Royal Guards began with a group of kids who simply loved the game and parents who committed to the journey. What started as optional  practices with simple workouts and basketball drills grew into a program built on the players' consistency, effort, and team-first habits. Little by little, more families joined—not because trophies were promised, but because the environment felt right.

While there is no shortage of basketball talent in San Antonio, we noticed a gap we couldn’t ignore: elementary-aged players were being underserved during their most formative years. The years when habits are built, discipline is learned, and confidence begins to take shape. We believe young athletes deserve more attention, more intention, and a stronger foundation from the very beginning.

We also realized basketball should mean more—more mentorship, more integrity, and more genuine growth for kids to develop themselves both on and off the court. So we built the program we wished existed! One that develops athletes and treats families with honesty and purpose while having fun playing the game we loved and learning it the right way.

Today, The Royal Guards team continues to grow into what we envisioned: a family-centered program where student-athletes are not just trained, but seen, heard, and guided along with their families. We are committed to building a community rooted in purpose, where every player and family who joins becomes part of something bigger—the Royal Guards family.

We go by the code of the G.U.A.R.D!

G
GRIT

Players are expected to remain resilient and committed, especially when things get hard. Grit means pushing through mistakes, fatigue, and adversity to finish every drill, possession, and game the right way.

U

UNITE

We win and lose as a team. Every player has a role, and every role matters. We communicate, support one another, and unite around a shared goal instead of playing for ourselves.

A

ATTITUDE

Players must show up ready to work. Attitude sets the ceiling for effort, and effort fuels development. Body language, coachability, and focus are non-negotiable parts of our standard.

R

RESPECT

We show respect for the game, officials, teammates, opponents, facilities, and coaches at all times. How we carry ourselves—on the court, on the bench, and in the stands—reflects our program.

D

DISCIPLINE

Discipline is required on and off the court. It shapes who we are as players and as people. From being on time and prepared to following team rules and executing assignments, discipline is the difference between potential and progress.
